Participants in this course will learn the skills and knowledge required to support and protect children and young people who are at risk of harm. It focuses not only on identifying the signs and symptoms of abuse or neglect but also supports child-focused practices to uphold the rights of the child, disclosure, reporting and confidentiality in accordance with state legislative responsibilities and the service policies and procedures.
Participants will also learn how to apply ethical and nurturing practices and observe professional boundaries when working with children and young people.
Participants will be required to demonstrate their skills in a real workplace (post-course) and submit a third-party observation report.
The skills in this course are applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice.

Course Delivery
This course can be delivered/assessed in the workplace or at facility organised by the training provider.
Entry Requirements
Participants must have significant communication skills, be able to read and understand forms and to make accurate reports and the ability to record details of children and young people at risk and to make reports using handwritten skills and computer skill.
Participants must either be employed in the childcare sector or find a workplace which allows them to volunteer their time to perform tasks. This workplace must be willing to provide a third-party observer to witness the demonstrations by the student and to complete a third-party report form.
Pre-course study: Students may be required to undertake online pre-course work prior to attending the face to face session depending on the course delivery mode.
Online study: Students must have access to a computer, smartphone, tablet or other electronic device with access to the internet to complete the online/ pre-course studies.

Online with face-to-face min. duration 360 minutes
Assessment Requirements
Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks.

Complete an Incident Report
Theory assessment - A written assessment consisting of case studies, short answer and multiple-choice questions.
Post-course assessment - The student will be required to demonstrate their skills in a real workplace (post-course) and submit a third-party observation report in order to achieve final competency.
