This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to recognise potentially hazardous

manual tasks, and then to prepare for and complete those tasks in a safe manner


This unit applies to all workers involved in manual handling tasks


The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory

legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice


The Hazardous manual tasks code of practice applies to this work

It is recommended that this unit be renewed every 24 months in line with Industry Standards

Course Delivery

This course will be delivered in the workplace or at Industry Training and Assessment Services facility

Course Duration

Initial Course - 4 Hours face to face and Workplace practical tasks

Refresher Course - 2 Hours face to face and Workplace practical tasks

Workplace Arrangements

Work Placement projects are a requirement for this course

Participants undertaking this course will be expected to complete both

written and practical assessment which include the following:

  • Performance Tasks

  • Practical Scenarios

  • Theory Assessment

The participant must successfully complete all performance tasks, practical scenarios

and theory assessments in order to be deemed competent
